Titanium is a light, strong, corrosion resistant metal with many industrial uses. No biological role for titanium is known. Anacystis nidulans accumulated titanium when starved in the presence of TiCl4 and the accumulated titanium was found to be associated with polyphosphate (Crang and Jensen, 1975). The mechanism of titanium uptake was not determined.
